This ranch is a truly exceptional 2,700 ha (6,671 acre) property. It includes shores on 4 different interconnected lakes (Paloma, Azul, Desierto, Elizalde), mountain ranges, grasslands, parks, as well as several rivers (Turbio, 7, Desague, Balboa, Mogotes and Paloma), waterfalls and countless streams ?hence the name of the ranch. The higher section of the property offers beautiful and isolated lenga forests, while the lower sections present evergreen coigue forests and grasslands.
The ranch is surrounded by the 179,000 ha (442.000 acres) of the Cerro Castillo National Reserve, which provides considerable extra territory to explore and enjoy. It enjoys unparalleled privacy, since it can only be accessed on foot, on horseback or by boat, and there are only a few inhabitants on the surrounding areas ?for example, the ranch is the only private landowner on the 400 ha (988 acre) Desierto Lake. Access by land from Carretera Austral could be developed, though it is probably not needed given the excellent connectivity the ranch has on the basis of US-built jet boats.
The property has a turn-key, beautifully decorated lodge which is probably one of the nicest in Aysen, of approximately 460 m2 (4,950 ft2). It was made with quality materials brought from Santiago de Chile and Europe. The ranch also includes 7 other new constructions for caretakers (3), workers (2) and guests (3).
Another important feature is the 70 km (43.5 mile) multipurpose single-track trail system for hiking and mountain biking, possibly the longest of its kind on a private property worldwide. Designed by specialized outdoors foreign consultants, it very much resembles the way Whistler?s trail system in Canada is designed.
All the rivers and streams mentioned above are well stocked with ravenous brown and rainbow trout and can provide amazing fishing for the avid angler, with viable options for any wind and weather condition. Río Paloma and Desague in particular offer browns and rainbows that average 18 to 24 inches, with larger fish also waiting to be taken. Lago La Paloma and Lago Azul also offer outstanding trout fishing. Several international visitors have fished in these waters, including famous actors and presidents.
The area of Lago La Paloma and Lago Azul is well known as one of the largest natural reserves of Huemul -a critically endangered species of native deer (only some 2,000 left) and a national symbol of Chile. Condors are frequently seen soaring over the property.
The Azul grassland and the Desierto section have very good productive potential (cattle carrying capacity); the ranch has just started an Angus program on the Azul section.
We suggest taking a careful look at www.doslagoslodge.com, a webpage that provides very good information and pictures. Under ?The Property? section you will find a map that offers a good understanding of the area where the ranch is located (please note you can check pictures of the different sectors by clicking on different icons of the map); also, the Photo Gallery section provides good visual information.
The ranch comes with 2 new US built jet boats (with capacity for 8-10 people each) to maximize interconnectivity among the lakes, plus 3 other boats for different uses and 2 barges. Satellite Internet and phone are available in different parts of the ranch.
There are other major improvements being put in place at this time that can be discussed if this property is of interest.
